Client: CityCouncil (in collaboration with cobiefrench.com and Jake Taylor)
Role: Creative Lead – Strategy, Concept, Art Direction, UX Flow, OOH Narrative
Summary:
CityCouncil is a membership-based app concept designed for a new wave of queer-identifying, culturally fluent men seeking intentional connection beyond the noise of social media, dating apps, and traditional networking platforms. As Creative Lead, I was responsible for shaping the brand’s strategic position and visual architecture—working from the ground up to define the voice, tone, and experiential flow of the product and its launch campaign.
No one enjoys the networking and connection platforms we've been given. Grindr is...Grindr. LinkedIn is...LinkedIn. Maybe Hinge is worthy? No, it’s cringe-worthy. CityCouncil locates a market share desperate for IRL third spaces and WWW connection opportunities that aren’t locked behind tiered subscriptions and paywalls. Membership is free but available by invite-only, with a no-ad model, a commerce directory of queer-affirming businesses, and live event partnerships baked in.
I led a team of freelance designers creating a visual experience for CityCouncil that focused on an info-dense, high-signal app experience tuned for digital natives. Afterward we pivoted toward a possible OOH whisper/velvet rope campaign that targeted the relevant demo with coded language, slightly homoerotic imagery, and sexually-charged double-entendres.
